𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 — 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗳𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲, 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘃𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀.At the ship.energy Summit (Day 2, Posidonia), two of our Bureau Veritas experts contributed to key discussions shaping the energy transition.First, Dr. John Kokarakis outlined how EU frameworks such as FuelEU Maritime and the EU ETS are reshaping the industry, with regulation now a primary driver of fuel choices and vessel design. Stakeholders must increasingly assess options based on lifecycle emissions, compliance pathways, and operational feasibility. He also highlighted growing complexity, with overlapping EU and IMO regulations, evolving standards, and uncertainties around fuel availability, infrastructure, and safety.Steve Grotsky also led a panel focused on how stakeholders are navigating investment decisions.A few key insights stood out:• Despite ongoing uncertainty, 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱• The industry is prioritizing 𝗳𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲, 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲-𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘀 over single-fuel bets• 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗢𝗜 are now essential to unlock adoption• The focus is shifting from innovation to 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴, with verification and financing as critical enablers• Solutions like 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗱-𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝘂𝗹𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 as immediately deployable optionsWhat clearly emerged is that decarbonization is no longer just a technology challenge — it is a 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹, 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲.This momentum is already translating into concrete initiatives. At Posidonia, Bureau Veritas also announced a Joint Development Project with K Shipbuilding and bound4blue for a next-generation LR1 tanker integrating Wind-Assisted Propulsion Systems (WAPS) — a clear example of how the industry is advancing practical, scalable solutions that combine energy efficiency, regulatory compliance, and commercial viability. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eqsSjs9r
