The aim of this course is to provide learners with the knowledge and skills required to perform first, second and third party audits of food safety management systems against the FSSC 22000 scheme, in accordance with ISO 19011, ISO 22003-1 and ISO 17021-1, as applicable. The scheme includes ISO 22000, sector specific requirements (ISO/TS 22002- x series) and FSSC 22000 additional requirements. All references in this document to ISO standards are to the current versions unless stated otherwise. 

Delegates who complete this CQI and IRCA Certified FSSC 22000 Lead Auditor Training course successfully (within the three years prior to making an application to become a certificated auditor) will satisfy the training requirements for initial certification as a CQI-IRCA Certificated FSSC auditor.

      e) The relationship between the prerequisite programmes specified in ISO/TS 22002-x series, FSSC 22000 and ISO 22000;
      f) The additional requirements of FSSC 22000 clause 2.5 including requirements for management of services and purchased materials, food defense, food fraud prevention, logo use, management of allergens, environmental monitoring, food safety and quality culture, quality control, product labelling and printed materials, transport, storage and warehousing, enhanced hazard control, PRP verification, product design and development, health status, equipment management, food loss and waste, communication requirements and multi-site certification requirements, including internal audit and auditor requirements.

What prior expertise is required for FSSC 22000 v.6 Lead Auditor Training Course?

For all candidates is desirable to have experience in the food chain, an understanding of relevant key food safety legislation and the completion of secondary education. It is also recommend to have the following prior knowledge:

  • Management systems – Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA) cycle
    • The core elements of a management system and the interrelationship between top management responsibility, policy, objectives, planning, implementation, measurement, review, and continual improvement;
  • Food Safety Management System
    • A knowledge of the principles of Food Safety Management including prerequisite programmes as specified in ISO/TS 22002-x series and HACCP;
    • The relationship between food safety management and the provision of safe food products to prevent or minimise adverse effects on human health and the proactive improvement of food safety performance;
    • Awareness of common examples of relevant national and local FSMS legislation and requirements;
    • The role of ISO 22003-1 in food management system certification;
    • Awareness of the food chain categories and sub-categories in ISO 22003-1;
    • Knowledge of the requirements of ISO 22000 which may be gained by work experience in the domain of Food Safety / by self study of ISO 22000 standard.

What are the expected outcome upon finishing the course?

There will be two types of assessments, continuous assessment, and examination. Methods and duration of Examination: 
Classroom Exam – 2 hours;
Virtual Exam – 2 hours
E-Assessment (CQI online examination) – 1 hour & 45 minutes. 
The method of examination will depend on course delivery mode with the priority of E-Assessment. Electronic devices, including laptops and mobile phones, are not permitted into the examination room. Delegates will also be assessed on the basis of their progress throughout the exercises. 

Delegates who successfully complete both the examination and the continuous assessment will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement and will satisfy the formal training requirements for CQI-IRCA FSSC 22000 Auditor Certification scheme. Delegates who do not successfully complete both the examination and the continuous assessment will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance for attending the course as per the duration of the course. They possess the right to resit examination once within 12 months since the last day of training course.
