This morning, Bureau Veritas expert Vassilios Dimoulas took the floor during the first session of the MARTECMA Conference, addressing the technical and commercial challenges of the downstream CO₂ value chain for onboard carbon capture (OCC).
Several promising projects are advancing OCC as a maritime decarbonization solution, including CO₂ terminal developments in Rotterdam and Antwerp. These initiatives are tackling key technical challenges, such as the safe handling of chemical solvents, the cryogenic nature of liquefied CO₂, and ship-to-shore interfaces. At the same time, the evolving international regulatory landscape adds complexity around how captured carbon can be stored, transported, and utilized.
Bureau Veritas remains committed to supporting the development of OCC through joint development projects (JDPs) and industry collaboration to address the technical challenges associated with this emerging technology.
We were also excited to welcome Laurence AUER, the French ambassador in Greece; Philippe TABAROT, the French Minister of Transport; Katerina Prifti Laskaridis DPA & HSQE Director at Laskaridis Shipping to our booth.
