RSPO Certification

ROUNDTABLE ON SUSTAINABLE PALM OIL

What is the RSPO certification?

Today, palm oil is the most widely produced vegetable oil in the world. Palm oil, used for both the food and non-food industry, plays a fundamental role in the economies of producing countries and in the livelihoods of millions of people. The use of RSPO certified palm oil demonstrates the commitment of organizations to maintain a sufficient supply without damaging the living conditions of local communities and the biodiversity of the affected ecosystems.

Founded in 2004, RSPO - Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil is a Non-Profit Association that aims to promote the cultivation and use of sustainable palm oil. Seven sectors of the palm oil industry are involved in RSPO's decision-making process, including growers, producers, processors and retailers, banks and investors, NGOs dedicated to environmental protection and social development. Thanks to its membership in the RSPO network, Bureau Veritas can offer integrated audits along the supply chain in order to meet all the needs of the sectors involved.

How to obtain the certification according the RSPO guideline?

The main stages of the certification process proposed by Bureau Veritas include:

  • Completing the application/questionnaire and selecting the supply chain model
  • Defining the contract
  • On-site audit
  • Issuance of the certificate, in the absence of non-conformities
  • Registration of the certificate on the RSPO website
  • Annual surveillance visit.

The certificate is valid for 5 years, with annual surveillance audits.
The scheme is also applicable to multi-site organizations, provided that all sites operate under a centralized administrative management.
