The aim of this course is to provide learners with the knowledge and skills required to perform first, second and third party audits of food safety management systems against the FSSC 22000 scheme, in accordance with ISO 19011, ISO 22003-1 and ISO 17021-1, as applicable. The scheme includes ISO 22000, sector specific requirements (ISO/TS 22002- x series) and FSSC 22000 additional requirements. All references in this document to ISO standards are to the current versions unless stated otherwise. 

Delegates who complete this CQI and IRCA Certified FSSC 22000 Lead Auditor Training course successfully (within the three years prior to making an application to become a certificated auditor) will satisfy the training requirements for initial certification as a CQI-IRCA Certificated FSSC auditor.

What are the prerequisites for the FSSC 22000 v.7 Lead Auditor Training Course?

For all candidates, completion of secondary education is required. Participants should have experience within the food chain and an understanding of the principles commonly applied in the sector, including HACCP, GMP, GAP; relevant food safety legislation and pre-requisite programmes is also required.
It is also recommended that participants possess the following prior knowledge:

  • Management systems – Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA) cycle
    - The core elements of a management system and the interrelationship between top management responsibility, policy, objectives, planning, implementation, measurement, review, and continual improvement;
  • Food Safety Management 
    - A knowledge of the principles of Food Safety Management including prerequisite programmes as specified in ISO/TS 22002-x series and HACCP;
    - The relationship between food safety management and the provision of safe food products to prevent or minimise adverse effects on human health and the proactive improvement of food safety performance;
    - Awareness of common examples of relevant national and local FSMS legislation and requirements;
    - The role of ISO 22003-1 in food management system certification;
    - Awareness of the food chain categories and sub-categories in ISO 22003-1;
    - Knowledge of the requirements of ISO 22000 which may be gained by work experience in the domain of Food Safety / by self study of ISO 22000 standard.

How is the FSSC 22000 Version 7 Lead Auditor Training Course delivered?

The FSSC 22000 Version 7 Lead Auditor Training Course combines instructor-led sessions, interactive discussions and practical exercises to help participants develop the knowledge and skills required to effectively audit a Food Safety Management System (FSMS).
Practical activities are based on a realistic case study and reflect situations commonly encountered during FSSC 22000 audits. All exercises are designed to strengthen auditing techniques, reporting skills and the application of ISO 22000, ISO 22003-1 and ISO 19011 requirements in real-world scenarios.

  • Where is the FSSC 22000 Version 7 Lead Auditor Training Course held?

    This five-day (40-hour) CQI-IRCA Certified FSSC 22000 Lead Auditor Training Course can be delivered at Bureau Veritas training centres, at your organization’s premises or through a live virtual classroom. This flexible approach allows participants to access professional food safety management training in the format that best suits their operational needs.

    Classroom-based training can also be delivered as a part-time (split) course using one of the following formats:  2 + 3 days / 3 + 2 days / 1 + 2 + 2 days/ 4 + 1 days / 2 + 1 + 2 days or five separate days 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1.
    Each training segment consists of complete learning days, with a maximum interval of five working days between sessions. Alternative delivery formats may be agreed in advance, subject to CQI-IRCA requirements.

    For split-course delivery, learning continues between sessions through guided self-study activities, including reading assignments, practical exercises, quizzes and assessments. These activities are reviewed with the tutor at the beginning of each subsequent session to reinforce learning outcomes and audit competency development.

What are the expected outcome upon finishing the course?

There will be two types of assessments, continuous assessment, and examination. Methods and duration of Examination: 
• Classroom Exam – 2 hours;
• Virtual Exam – 2 hours
• E-Assessment (CQI online examination) – 1 hour & 45 minutes.

The method of examination will depend on course delivery mode with the priority of E-Assessment. Electronic devices, including laptops and mobile phones, are not permitted into the examination room. Delegates will also be assessed on the basis of their progress throughout the exercises. 
Delegates who successfully complete both the examination and the continuous assessment will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement and will satisfy the formal training requirements for CQI-IRCA FSSC 22000 Auditor Certification scheme. Delegates who do not successfully complete both the examination and the continuous assessment will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance for attending the course as per the duration of the course. They possess the right to resit examination once within 12 months since the last day of training course.
