In response, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) developed ISO 45001 in 2018. This standard, based on existing health and safety frameworks like BS OHSAS 18001, outlines requirements for management systems designed to protect workers, reduce risks, and enhance overall workplace safety.
It's important that all employees are fully made aware of the applicable laws of the
land and their provisions as applicable to their area of operations and consequences of not complying with the requirements. Formal training of employees is the right step in this direction.
What are the objectives of the ISO 45001:2018 Auditor Conversion Course?
The ISO 45001:2018 Auditor Conversion Training Course, offered by Bureau Veritas Malta, is to provide delegates with the knowledge and skills required to perform first, second and third-party audits of Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems against ISO 45001:2018, in accordance with ISO 19011 and ISO 17021, as applicable.
Delegates who complete this CQI and IRCA Certified ISO 45001 Lead Auditor (OHSAS) Training course successfully (within the three years prior to making an application to become a certificated auditor) will satisfy the training requirements for initial certification as an IRCA OHSAS auditor.
On attending this program, participants will have:
- An appreciation of the importance of Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems in business operations
- Knowledge of requirements of the Standard ISO 45001:2018
- An understanding of the approach towards implementing the Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems
- An understanding of the approach to auditing the requirements of the Standard.

- Introduction to OHSMS
- Requirements of ISO 45001:2018
- Overview of:
a) Occupational Health and Safety issues
b) OH&S Strategies
c) Overview of Audit management, Performing audit and Audit reporting for OHSMS - Practical exercises, workshops, case studies, Role plays and feedback
The program uses a mixture of taught sessions, interactive group discussions and exercises to achieve its aims.
The practical exercises are based upon the procedures, work instructions and could relate to many different enterprises equally.
What are the prerequisites for ISO 45001:2018 Auditor conversion training?
Delegates must have successfully completed a CQI-IRCA Certified Lead Auditor Training on any subject with Annex SL Frame work based ISO Standards.
Additionally they are recommended to undergo a Foundation training course on OHSMS (FD127 OHSMS ISO 45001:2018 Foundation).
Alternatively delegates are expected to acquire adequate knowledge on the following:
a) Knowledge of the requirements of ISO 45001:2018
b) Knowledge of the following Occupational health and safety management principles and concepts
c) The purpose and benefits of a Hazard identification and risk assessment
d) The principles of risk assessment and analysis Typical OH&S strategies OHSMS performance metrics, monitoring and performance measurement
